Lake County's Reading of the Declaration of Independence

TODAY’S FEATURED SPEAKER Dr. Gregory M. Gordon is a tenured professor at the College of Lake County, where he has taught history since 1991,and has dedicated his career to exploring and preserving U.S. history and African American history. His contributions to public history include leading the Lake County African American Oral History Project, which earned a Certificate of Commendation from the American Association for State and Local History. He has also served as President of the Lake County Discovery Museum Foundation Board and has been a longtime member of the Lake County Forest Preserves’ Profiles in Excellence Black History Month Programming Committee. Dr. Gordon has served as a visiting professor in both the United Kingdom and China and has contributed to multiple college history textbooks and scholarly publications. A lifelong Lake County resident, he was born in Waukegan and raised in Zion. As we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, Dr. Gordon brings his passion for history and civic education to today’s reading of the Declaration of Independence, inviting us to reflect on the nation’s founding ideals and their enduring significance.
